The People Behind the Pages

Every article on Adore Your Pets is written by one of four people. We publish under pen names, partly to keep our private lives private and partly because the work matters more than the byline. None of us holds a professional title in gambling, law or medicine, and we will never pretend otherwise. What we do have is a long-standing fascination with how games of chance are built, and a shared habit of checking our own maths twice.

Who does what

Ilsabet — slots and game mechanics

Ilsabet reads game info screens the way other people read menus. She writes most of our Slots Explained pieces, from reel strips and paylines to jackpot pools, and she is the reason so many of our articles include a small table. Her favourite topic is volatility, because it explains why two games with the same return can feel so different. Her guide to colossal symbols is a good example of her style.

Corvin — sports betting formats

Corvin watches far too much football and has strong opinions about stat corrections. He covers bet types, odds formats and settlement rules, and he insists that every worked example uses invented figures so nobody mistakes it for advice. Start with his explainer on round robin bets.

Tavish — casino formats and promotions

Tavish looks at the business side of play: how sweepstakes models, bonus terms and loyalty schemes are put together, and which bits of fine print deserve a second look. He enjoys reading terms and conditions more than is probably healthy.

Elowen — play smart and editing

Elowen edits every article before it goes live and writes our pieces on budgets, breaks and account limits. She also looks after corrections. If something you read here seems off, there is a good chance she will be the one who replies.

What we have in common

We disagree about plenty, from favourite table games to the best way to lay out an odds table, but a few principles are shared by all four of us:

  • Explain the mechanism first, then the experience.
  • Be honest about the house edge in every piece where it matters.
  • Use hypothetical numbers rather than borrowed claims.
  • Write for adults, and never for anyone under 18.
  • Remind readers that local rules come before anything we write.

How an article comes together

One of us picks a question readers actually ask, drafts an answer, and builds any examples from scratch. A second writer reads it cold and marks anything confusing or overstated. Elowen does the final edit, checks every internal link and makes sure the responsible-play note fits the topic rather than being pasted on.

We are a small team, so we cannot cover everything. If there is a topic you would like us to tackle, send it through the contact page; plenty of our best articles started as a reader's question.

If we cannot explain why the house wins, we have not finished explaining the game.

Our shared habits

What every one of us signs up to

Four writers, four sets of opinions, and one list nobody argues about.

  • Explain the mechanism before the excitement
  • Name the house edge wherever it matters
  • Build examples from made-up numbers
  • Write for adults and nobody younger
  • Point readers to their local rules every time
